Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI) organized a conference on "Ocean Governance and Maritime Security" on Monday, 8th May 2023 from 9:00 to 16:30 hrs (IST) at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI) Auditorium. The opening remarks were delivered by Mrs. Aruni Wijewardane, Secretary to Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The keynote speech was delivered by Hon. M.U.M.Ali Sabry, PC, MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The conference consisted of three panels. Namely, first panel titled “Treaty of the High Seas- Bio Diversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Agreement and the Way Forward”. The second pane titled “Regional Security Cooperation on an Open and Rule Based Maritime, Architecture. Final panel discussed under the title, “Environment Maritime protection and Disaster Preparedness”.
Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardena RWP**,RSP, VSV, USP, nswc, psc, hdmc, MSc(DS)Mgt, MMS, MSc (NS & WS), BSc(Hons), Acting Director General and Director Communications and Publications, Ms. Charani Patabendige, Acting Research Analyst and Research Assistant and Ms Sandamini Madhushi, Research Assistant participated in the event from Institute of National Security Studies.
