INSS Welcome New Research Staff

The Institute of National Security Studies warmly welcomes the four newly recruited ladies to the Research Staff who joined on 15th February 2023. During the tenure at the INSS they are expected to engage in research and events connected to national security and come up with suitable recommendations to address such challenges.

Ms. Avani Sasanka Samarakoon is a Research Analyst at the Institute of National Security studies. She has successfully completed her Bachelor of Laws at General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University. (don’t start sentances with “and”) She is also in possession of a postgraduate diploma in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Sri Jayawardanepura and Master of Laws in international business laws from the Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK). She has worked as a research assistant at the University of Sri Jayawardanapura for two years prior to joining INSS. She has many national and international journal publications and her research interest are National security, Criminology, Criminal Justice and Human rights.

Minoshi Perera joined INSS as an intern (Research) and was subsequently selected as a Research Assistant. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Bachelors of Arts in English and Linguistics from the University of Sri Jayewardenapura. She was a Team Leader and a Manager at AIESEC at the University of Sri Jayewardenapura. She is currently reading for her Masters in Human Rights and Democratization at the University of Colombo. Her research interests are National Security and Human Rights.

Chandani Dissanayake is a Research Assistant at the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS). She is a graduate who graduated in Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Kelaniya and currently she is reading for a Master of Social Sciences in Sociology (MSSc) in University of Kelaniya. She has successfully completed a certificate course in Postgraduate Research, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. In addition, She is involved as a volunteer with the Centre for Gender Studies, University of Kelaniya. Her research interest are global and local health security, gender and gender -based violence, criminology and national security. She has published research papers in national and international journals. Before joining INSS she was a Project Assistant at the Open University of Sri Lanka.

Madhushi Sandamini is a Research Assistant at the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS). She is a graduate in Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Kelaniya with a second class upper division. She has worked as a research assistant in Kumbukkan Oya and Heda Oya multi-purpose reservoir projects implemented by the Ministry of Irrigation as well as the elevated highway project implemented by Urban Development Authority. In addition, she has published research papers in national and international journals. She is currently reading for a Master of Arts degree in Sociology at the University of Colombo. Her research interests are health security, social security and environmental security.
